How it works in Guelph

The Advanced RPAS flight review is the in-person practical assessment that completes your Advanced certificate — you must already hold a passing grade on the written exam. It runs about an hour: pre-flight briefing, aircraft and document check, a short flight on your own aircraft, and an honest debrief. Here's the full walkthrough of what to expect.

Guelph is where I live and fly. Most of the city sits in uncontrolled airspace, which makes for a clean review site — but a strong briefing here still has to deal with the specifics: the Guelph Airpark (CNC4) and its circuit traffic on the east side, the hospital heliport, and the busy river corridors and parks where bystander management does the real work. Candidates who research those properly walk into the review ahead of the game.

CA$275, travel included. I come to you or to a suitable site we agree on — no fixed test centre, no travel surcharge anywhere in Guelph. The preparation guide is included free when you book, and if the briefing makes clear you're not ready, I'd rather reschedule than take your money.

Three questions Guelph candidates ask

Where do we actually meet?

Usually at a site in or just outside Guelph that suits your aircraft and the operation you want to brief — a quiet park, a rural property, or a site you have permission to use. I'll suggest options when you book.

Whose drone do I fly?

Your own. The review assesses you on the aircraft you actually fly — it must be registered with Transport Canada, marked with its registration number, and airworthy.

How soon can I book?

Email with your exam pass and your location and I'll come back with dates — usually within a couple of weeks, weather depending. Booking sooner after your written exam is better; the knowledge is fresh.
